2-1 Marriage in the Resurrection
Torah Portion 2-1 Bereshith (Genesis) 2:1-24
Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Many people believe that there will be no marriage in the resurrection which is based upon the following statement allegedly said by our Messiah.
Yahusha answered and said unto them, You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of Elohiym. For in the resurrection, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the messengers of Elohiym in heaven.
He specifically says that they “err in not knowing the scriptures,” which at the time included the Law of Moshe, the Hebrew Prophets and the Tehillim as defined in Luke 24:44-45 by our Messiah. What do the “scriptures” actually say on the matter? Does the Word of our Father actually support these words in Mattithyahu (Matthew)?
At the end of the sixth day, everything that our Father had created was “very good” or “very functional” from His perspective.
And Elohiym saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
The Hebrew word translated as “good” is more accurately translated as “something that functions properly”. “Evil,” on the other hand, means “something that does not function properly”. “Functional” and “dysfunctional” behavior from the perspective of our Father is described in the following passage:
See, I have set before you this day life and good [functional], and death and evil [dysfunctional]; In that I command you this day to love Yahuah your Elohiym, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that you may live and multiply: and Yahuah your Elohiym shall bless you in the land where you go to possess it. But if your heart turn away, so that you will not hear, but shall be drawn away, and worship other mighty ones, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that you shall surely perish, and that you shall not prolong your days upon the land, where you pass over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both you and your seed may live: That you may love Yahuah your Elohiym, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cleave unto him: for he is your life, and the length of your days: that you may dwell in the land which Yahuah swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Yitzhak, and to Ya’aqob, to give them.
According to this passage, “functional behaviors” include the following:
- Loving Yahuah your Elohiym
- Walking in His Ways
- Guarding His commandments, statutes and judgements
- Hearing and obeying His Voice
- Cleaving to Him
“Dysfunctional” behaviors would be the opposite of these actions listed in this passage: not loving Yahuah; not walking in His Ways; not guarding His commandments, statutes and judgements; not hearing and obeying His Voice; and not cleaving to Him. From the perspective of our Father, Adam and Chavah were in complete alignment with “functional’ behaviors listed in Debarim 30:15-20.
When Adam and Chavah ate from the forbidden tree, their actions were considered “dysfunctional” in the eyes of Yahuah. Chavah “heard and obeyed the voice of the serpent” instead of the Voice of our Father. Adam chose to “hear and obey the voice of his wife” instead of the Voice of Yahuah who had told him not to eat from that tree.
And unto Adam he said, Because you have heard and obeyed [Shema] unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;
This is a “dysfunctional” behavior listed in Debarim (Deuteronomy) 30:15-20. Before this moment, Adam and Chavah were doing “very functional” behaviors from the perspective of our Father.
Every Law instituted BEFORE the Fall of man was “functional” behavior in the eyes of our Father and permissible. From His perspective, it was “very good”. This included the “covenant relationship between and a man and a woman” as well as the commandment “to be fruitful and multiply”.
And Yahuah Elohiym caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which Yahuah Elohiym had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man”. Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
And Elohiym blessed them, and Elohiym said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.
The Torah illustrates that the desire of our Father is to restore His creation back to the way it was in the beginning BEFORE Adam and Chavah sinned when it was “very good” in His eyes. Essentially, Yahuah is going to put an end to “dysfunctional” behaviors by eliminating the people who still choose to participate in “dysfunctional” behaviors. This is another point in time when ALL things will be restored which has not happened as yet.
“Sin” is dysfunction in the eyes of Yahuah because we are choosing to hear and obey the voice of someone else which is root of all idolatry. Testimony tells us that Messiah Yahusha takes away the sin of the world.
The next day Yochanan saw Yahusha coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of Elohiym, which takes away the sin of the world.
We have two possible interpretations to this statement made by Yochanan the Immerser (John the Baptist).
- Messiah Yahusha enters into the body of an individual and forces them to observe the Shabbat on the seventh day. He forces them to STOP fornicating. He forces them to STOP lying.
This particular scenario violates the right of freewill. If this individual WANTED to observe the Shabbat on the seventh day, they would be doing it right now. If they WANTED to stop fornicating, they would not be doing this behavior right now. If they WANTED to stop lying, they would STOP lying right now. In this scenario, Messiah Yahusha would be violating their right of freewill and that is against the Law. Here is the second scenario.
- Messiah Yahusha judges the earth and destroys everyone who has chosen to continue to practice sin.
When the sinner is removed, so is the sin. As stated, Messiah Yahusha came to “take away the sin of the world”. He has come to remove “dysfunctional” behaviors by removing those who continue to do so. He is not eliminating any “functional” behaviors in the eyes of Yahuah or those who practice “functional” behaviors.
The Word of our Father as well as testimony from Messiah Yahusha Ben David has provided ample warning to people. Yahusha said:
I tell you, Nay: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
Millions and millions of people all over the world have their own copy of the Word of Yahuah and the testimony of Messiah Yahusha. People have been warned. If they do not heed the warning, they will perish in the second death for which there is no redemption. Our Messiah is going to remove sin in the second scenario but he is not going to remove behaviors that are functional in the eyes of our Father.
Testimony clearly states that everything from the perspective of our Father was “very good” in the beginning. It was “very functional”. Why would our Father change anything in the world the way it was in the very beginning? From His vantage point, it was “very functional”. His desire is to restore His creation back to the way it was in the very beginning. We see evidence of this in the prophets. Yeshayahu (Isaiah) talks about a time when the wolf will lay down with the lamb.
The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
This passage says a “little child shall lead them”. When read in the context of the passage, this is talking about the time AFTER our Messiah has come and is established as King. The passage continues:
And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my set-apart mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Yahuah, as the waters cover the sea. And in that day, there shall be a root of Yishai, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
Children who are described as “sucking” are breast-feeding. “Weaned” children have just finished breast-feeding. If they are breast-feeding then they have a mother. Women cannot have children on their own without a father. This evidence illustrates that there will be marriage in the resurrection and that we will continue to be fruitful and multiply. We also have evidence in Revelation that marriage will continue in the resurrection.
And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, HalleluYah: for Yahuah Elohiym omnipotent reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the Marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife has made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he said unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true sayings of Elohiym.
Messiah Yahusha will be married when he returns as King. In this passage, there are three parties identified: the Lamb who is Messiah Yahusha, his wife and those who will attend the marriage supper and witness this event. His wife is a singular entity and those who attend the event are those who have repented from their sins. The “marriage supper of the Lamb” is also discussed in Yechezqel (Ezekiel) with the two sticks.
Say unto them, Thus says Adonai Yahuah; Behold, I will take the stick of Yoseph, which is in the hand of Ephrayim, and the tribes of Yashar’El his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Yahudah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in My hand. And the sticks whereon you write shall be in your hand before their eyes. And say unto them, Thus says Adonai Yahuah; Behold, I will take the children of Yashar’El from among the heathen, where they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Yashar’El; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
This is a marriage between the House of Ephrayim and the House of Yahudah. Messiah Yahusha will marry a daughter from Ephrayim to unite the two kingdoms. The two shall become one. This is the only way two sovereign nations established by Yahuah can be united together. This occurs AFTER the resurrection and when the whole House of Yashar’El is brought back to land of their inheritance.
There will be marriage in the resurrection and Messiah Yahusha Ben David will consummate his marriage and have children. He will be fruitful and multiply. In this restoration, Yahusha replaces Adam and the wife of Yahusha from the tribe of Ephrayim replaces Chavah. This is the restoration of our Father’s Kingdom back to the way it was in the very beginning.
The words allegedly spoken by Messiah Yahusha in Mattithyahu (Matthew) 22:29-30 have been mistranslated or added by the Roman Catholic Church to justify the celibacy laws in their priesthood. There are no “scriptures” in the Law, Hebrew Prophets and Tehillim that support these words allegedly spoken by Messiah Yahusha.
