641-4 “Nephilim” & The Evil Report
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Yashar’El, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
The other passage which has mislead people is in Bemidbar. Moshe sent twelve spies, a leader from each tribe to go into the land and observe the inhabitants. Ten of the spies brought back an evil report and two encouraged Yashar’El to not fear. Our English text says they saw “giants” in the land.
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Yashar’El, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature [Midah #H4060]. And there we saw the giants [Nephilim #H5303], the sons of Anak, which come of the giants [Nephilim #H5303]: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

This testimony does say, they saw men of great stature which would indicate that they saw giants. This study is not denying the existence of giants. These spies saw men of great stature but they also saw “fallen men and women” or “nephilim”. They saw people committing sins… probably sacrificing their children to Molech or cannibalism.
People willing to sacrifice their own children in heinous ways do not operate by the same standard of honor. They are ruthless which likely created the great fear the spies experienced. This passage could be read the following way based on the evidence:
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Yashar’El, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature [Midah #H4060]. And there we saw the fallen men [Nephilim #H5303], the sons of Anak, which come of the fallen men [Nephilim #H5303]: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
The Hebrew word for “great stature” is “midah” and it is defined the following way by The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible as:
HDM( fem., מדה / mi-dah ) Translation: MEASUREMENT Definition: A size or distance that is determined by comparing to a standard of measure. KJV Translations: measure, piece, stature, size, meteyard, garment, tribute, wide, toll, tribute Strong’s Hebrew #: h.4060 Aramaic Spelling: מנדה Strong’s Aramaic #: a.4061
The root is defined the following way:
DM מד Action: Stretch, Measure Object: Carpet, Long, Garment Abstract: Continue Definition: A carpet was stretched out to cover the dirt floor of the tent. A bowl of water was located at the door so that one could wash his feet before stepping on the carpet. A garment as a rectangular piece of cloth, similar to a carpet, used as a covering for the body. Ancient Hebrew: The pictograph M is a picture of water, the D is a picture of a tent door. Combined these mean “water at the door”.
DM ( masc., מד ) Translation: LONG.GARMENT Definition: A piece of clothing of unusual length. KJV Translations: garment, armour, measure, raiment, judgment, clothes Strong’s Hebrew #: h.4055
This word could indicate that there existed people of great size in the land. Just because they are giants does not mean they are the offspring of alleged “angels” who are men with wings. Here are some actual photos of giants in our recent past. Do they look like barbaric monsters bent on destroying mankind?

Giants are men and women. Some giant men are good and some are evil. But not all giants are evil monsters and they are not the offspring of an “angel” and a woman. We have evidence of “giants” in the Word of Yahuah Elohiym. Og, King of Bashan was humongous!
For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants [Rephaim #H7497]; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
Og was from Rephaim which has been translated as “giants” in this passage. He was somewhere between 9 and 13 feet tall which aligns with some of the images we previously observed. “Rephaim” does not actually mean “giant” either. It is defined the following way by The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible as:
HPR ( common, רפה / r.p.h ) Translation: SINK.DOWN (V) Definition: To drop down; to be slack or idle due to weakness, illness or laziness. Alternate Translations: lazy (when written in the niphil [passive] form) KJV Translations: feeble, fail, weaken, go, alone, idle, stay, slack, faint, forsake, abate, cease Strong’s Hebrew #: h.7503
HPR ( common, רפא / r.p.a ) Translation: HEAL (V) Definition: To restore to health or wholeness. Alternate Spellings: רפה KJV Translations: heal, physician, cure, repair Strong’s Hebrew #: h.7495
The two-letter root is defined the following way:
PR רפ Action: Heal, Sink, Pulverize, Burn Object: Medicine, Idol, Venom Abstract: Sick, Weak Definition: Wounds, sickness and illnesses are cured with medicines made from plant materials which were pulverized into a medicinal powder. Ancient Hebrew: The pictograph R is a picture of the head of a man, the P is a picture of an open mouth. Combined these mean “man open”.
Og of Bashan and his entire family were lowly, sick men as well as men of large stature. They are named after their father “Rapha” who is identified in the following passage:
And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant [Rapha #7498].
Evidence tells us the Rephaim existed during the time of Abraham:
In the same day Yahuah made a beriyth with Abram, saying, Unto your seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaim, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
These men were likely genetically large men who were very evil just like small men who are very evil today. Evil is evil.
The reality is that the book of Enoch is a work of fiction which contradicts the Torah and Prophets. It is an invention of someone’s mind. It did not come from Yahuah Elohiym and is leading people astray from the truth. There is no salvation in deception. Messiah Yahusha says, you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
If we continue to cast blame to some other entity or group such as this class of evil giants, then we fail to take ownership for our own sins. WE caused Yahuah to flood the earth! It is our fault and we are repeating this mistake again as we speak. If we cannot accept ownership for our sins then we cannot repent. It is time to start admitting to ourselves that we are the “fallen men” or the “nephilim” and work to reverse this condition in our lives as individuals as well as a community.
Based on these findings, we can reverse the consequences of being cast out through true, genuine repentance from our transgressions of His divine Law as written by the prophet Moshe. This is prophesied to happen.
And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where Yahuah your Elohiym has driven you, And shall return unto Yahuah your Elohiym, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul; That THEN Yahuah your Elohiym will turn your captivity, and have compassion upon you, and will return and gather you from all the nations, where Yahuah your Elohiym has scattered you. If any of yours be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from there will Yahuah your Elohiym gather you, and from there will he fetch you: And Yahuah your Elohiym will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and he will do you good, and multiply you above thy fathers.
This passage is describing a reversal of being in a fallen state. It says we must return to Yahuah Elohiym by hearing and obeying ALL of His instructions in the Torah written by the Prophet Moshe. When we do this, He will return and gather us from the four winds of heaven and bring us back to our land and be with us forever. Here is an illustration:

He will first bring us into the land which is the thousand years of shalom. At the end of this time period, Messiah Yahusha Ben David will have fully prepared us to meet Yahuah Elohiym and to have access to the Garden of Eden at the end of the thousand years. It will be a glorious day indeed!
