Yom Teruah

541-4 Yom Teruah: The Fall

Speak unto the children of Yashar’El, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, you shall have a Shabbat, a memorial of blowing of Teruah, a set-apart gathering.

VAYIQRA (LEVITICUS) 23:24

“Yom Teruah” was a memorial established by Yahuah Elohiym. It is a Day that is significant from His perspective. In previous studies in this series, we had determined that those in Rabbinic Judaism have also lost the true meaning and intent of this Appointed Time as well. We have also deduced that this Day is not a memorial for the flood event. It occurred in the second month and not the seventh month.

In the definition of the Hebrew word itself, “teruah” is an “alarm” for war. It is based upon the twisted actions of mankind. It is something that made our Father grieve tremendously like the condition of mankind right before the flood. Is there some other event in our Father’s life experiences that caused Him considerable grief?

Is it the Fall of Mankind and the sin of Adam?

If this event had never happened, there never would have been a flood that nearly destroyed the entire earth and all of its inhabitants. It is the event inevitably responsible for the flood and the evil being committed today. Let’s take a closer look at this event in the very beginning.

In Bereshith (Genesis) 1:31, Yahuah Elohiym looked upon everything that He created and said it was “very good”. In our previous study in this series, the Hebrew word “tov” means something that functions properly. According to Debarim (Deuteronomy) 30:15-20, behaviors that are “good” or “functional” in the eyes of Yahuah include loving Him; walking in His Ways; guarding His commandments, statutes and judgements; hearing and obeying His Voice and cleaving to Him. This is what He witnessed at the end of the sixth day:

And Elohiym saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very functional. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Bereshith/Genesis 1:31

This is Yahuah’s testimony recorded by the Prophet Moshe. Yahuah was there in the beginning and Moshe recorded the things that Yahuah witnessed and experienced. In the beginning, Yahuah Elohiym created everything including mankind to “function properly within its intended purpose” and from His perspective loving Him; walking in His ways; guarding His commandments, statutes and judgements; hearing and obeying His Voice and cleaving to Him are “functional” behaviors. This is the way He created Adam and Chavah to function in the beginning and it was “very good” in His eyes. He created Adam and Chavah to abide by His Laws.

Then, the day came in which Yahuah tested their love for Him.

Would they hear and obey His Voice no matter what?

It started with a conversation between Chavah and the serpent or the “nachash”. In this conversation, she chose to hear and obey the voice of the serpent rather than the Voice of Yahuah and ate from the forbidden tree. This is “dysfunctional” behavior in the eyes of Yahuah Elohiym because she did NOT hear and obey His Voice. Here is that conversation:

Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Yahuah Elohiym had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, has Elohiym said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Elohiym has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die: For Elohiym does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as elohiym, knowing function and dysfunction. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Bereshith/Genesis 3:1-6

Chavah gave the forbidden fruit to her husband and he ate it. Both disobeyed the Voice of Yahuah Elohiym. According to Debarim (Deuteronomy) 30:15-20, this is “dysfunctional” behavior just like the behaviors He witnessed before the flood event. Chavah chose to “hear and obey the voice of the serpent” and Adam chose to “hear and obey the voice of his wife”. Both individuals did actions that were “dysfunctional”. Here is the rest of the story in Bereshith (Genesis) 3:7-24.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of Yahuah Elohiym walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahuah Elohiym amongst the trees of the garden. And Yahuah Elohiym called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where are you? And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told you that you was naked? Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat? And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And Yahuah Elohiym said unto the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And Yahuah Elohiym said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life: And I will put enmity [war] between you and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall strike your head, and you shall strike his heel. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you. And unto Adam he said, Because you have heard and obeyed the voice of your wife [not the Voice of Yahuah], and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return unto the ground; for out of it was you taken: for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return. And Adam called his wife’s name Chavah; because she was the mother of all living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did Yahuah Elohiym make coats of skins, and clothed them. And Yahuah Elohiym said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good [Tov] and evil [Ra]: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the Tree of Life, and eat, and live forever: Therefore, Yahuah Elohiym sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from where he was taken. So, he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the Garden of Eden Kerubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way to the Tree of Life.

Bereshith/Genesis 3:7-24

In this situation, there was a transition from “functional” behaviors to “dysfunctional” behaviors. “Dysfunctional” behaviors cause our Father to grieve as illustrated in Bereshith (Genesis) 6:6. Also, Adam and Chavah were going to die and be separated from Him. How many of us would grieve the death of our child? How many of us would grieve a permanent separation from them in which we would no longer fellowship with them or talk to them? Losing a child would devastate me! My heart would be broken in a million tiny pieces. Why would our Father be any different when experiencing a loss like this? The Fall of Mankind was a very sad day for our Father and it hurt Him to His core.

This is the “Day” dysfunction entered into the world with its associated curses and the inevitable death of Adam and his offspring.

It was their actions on this particular day that opened the door to ALL the dysfunction that occurred prior to the flood event as well as all the evil that exists in our world today. It is a Day that caused our Father to grieve tremendously. We also know this occurred because of the punishment Adam and Chavah received.

The Law of Sowing and Reaping is an eternal fixed Law that cannot be changed or deleted. It has been established by our Father. We all reap what we sow which is the most righteous and just form of justice. Secular people describe this Law as “karma” because it is a very real thing. In the curses mentioned in Bereshith (Genesis) 3:14-24, sorrow is an outcome reaped by Chavah.

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow [H6093] and your conception; in sorrow [H6089] you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you.

Bereshith/Genesis 3:16

Chavah reaped sorrow because she caused tremendous sorrow by her actions and choices. Adam also reaped sorrow because it is an outcome of the curse placed upon him as well.

And unto Adam he said, Because you have heard and obeyed the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, you shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow [H6093] shall you eat of it all the days of your life;

Bereshith/Genesis 3:17

ALL of these are the same Hebrew word and they mean “heavy grief”. This is the punishment Adam and Chavah received because this is what they sowed with their actions. They caused our Father to experience tremendous grief when they ate from the forbidden tree. Therefore, they and their offspring would experience tremendous grief.

There is another point to consider in this situation. “Teruah” also represents an “alarm” alerting the camp of an enemy’s approach. The moment Adam and Chavah sinned; they became an enemy to Yahuah Elohiym. This is pictured in the root for the Hebrew word translated as “naked”. The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible written by Jeff A. Benner defines it as:

R[ (ער) Action: Bare, Uncover, Watch Object: Skin, Naked, Neck Definition: When the enemy is captured, he is stripped of his clothes to the skin and carefully watched. Ancient Hebrew: The pictograph[ is a picture of the eye, the R is a picture of a man. Combined these mean “see a man”.

After Adam and Chavah had eaten from the forbidden tree, they could see their nakedness and tried to cover it with fig leaves. They had been stripped of their covering. They made themselves an “enemy” to Yahuah Elohiym and this is pictured in all the empires that have ever existed that exercised dominion and control over the earth. Yahuah had created mankind to obey His Laws which have existed since He has existed. We discuss this in our study titled, The Torah Existed in the Beginning. Adam and Chavah were supposed to exercise dominion over the earth using the Laws of our Father. However, Adam and his firstborn sons have ruled over the earth using their own Laws rather than the Laws of Yahuah Elohiym that existed in the Garden in the very beginning.

The Laws of mankind in every empire that has ever existed are a mixture of our Father’s Laws and manmade Laws. For example, the United States prohibits stealing from another individual but they allow abortion of the unborn child. “Not stealing” is a Law in our Father’s Kingdom. However, “murder” is not allowed in His Kingdom. Abortion of an unborn child is murder and the shedding of innocent blood.

Earthly kingdoms have always been a mixture of “good” and “evil”. They are a mixture of “function” and “dysfunction” from the perspective of our Father and reflect the image of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. They are still eating the forbidden fruit.

Our Father is a King with a Kingdom. He is the Ruler and Judge over all the inhabitants of the earth. ALL Kings that have ever existed have a set of Laws by which they use to govern their respective kingdoms. The United States has millions of Laws. France has millions of Laws. These kingdoms establish Laws to maintain order among the citizens who live within their boundaries.

Our Father’s Laws are conveyed in the writings of Moshe. They were not invented when the covenant at Mount Sinai was given. They have always existed. They have existed as long as Yahuah Elohiym has existed. They actually describe His nature and character. He does not lie, steal or commit adultery. He follows-through on all of His promises. They are the Laws that He believes establish perfect order in the earth.

When an individual or kingdom teaches people to violate His Laws, they are rebelling against Him. They are criminals in His eyes requiring discipline. When a group of people in a kingdom rebel against the Laws established by their King, they have started a revolution or a revolt. Our Father views the United States as rebels who have revolted against Him because they teach people to disobey His Laws. He views France as rebels. He views Christianity as a group of rebels because they teach people to disobey His Laws. This has been an ongoing war between Yahuah Elohiym and mankind. It is a war between Heaven and Earth. The following passage describes this war between Heaven and Earth and its timeline.

And Yahuah said, My Spirit shall not always strive with Adam, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty planting cycles.

Bereshith/Genesis 6:3

Yahuah has placed a timeline upon this war with Adam and his sons. Most translations tell us that it is a “one hundred and twenty years”. But from an ancient Hebrew perspective, it is actually “120 planting cycles”. The passage does not make sense using “years”. The striving begun when Adam sinned and has continued for more than 120 years. The Hebrew Word Study: Shanah breaks down this word using the ancient Hebrew pictographic language. It literally means “planting cycles”. Our Father has three planting cycles in His Word:

  1. The annual cycle which includes one cycle of the four seasons
  2. The Land Shabbat cycle which includes six annual planting cycles and a year of rest. This cycle is seven years. One hundred and twenty Land Shabbat cycles is 840 years.
  3. The Yovel Cycle which includes seven Land Shabbat cycles and a year of rest. This cycle is 50 years. One hundred and twenty Yovel Cycles is 6000 years.

The years for the two first cycles have come and gone. However, we are near the end of the 120 Yovel Cycles right now. Based on our own experiences, we can still see mankind striving with Yahuah Elohiym. They are still using their own Laws to rule and reign over the inhabitants of the earth. He is telling us that at the end of these 6000 years, that the striving will end. There will be a transition in governments from the first Adam represented by his sons to the Last Adam who was resurrected from the first death. This transition happens on “Yom Teruah” when Messiah Yahusha returns.

But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the messengers of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noach were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noach entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Mattithyahu/Matthew 24:36-39

In this passage, Messiah Yahusha Ben David is telling us that he will return on “Yom Teruah” which is the “day and hour that no man knows”. If this is the day he returns, then this will mark the end of “striving with mankind” which ENDS after 6000 years.

If Yom Teruah is the Day Yahusha returns then it was this day 6000 years ago that Adam brought sin into the world.

The text in the Word of Yahuah does not plainly state, “Messiah Yahusha will return on Yom Teruah”. However, Yahuah has established patterns that He uses all of the time. He is consistent, reliable and constant. He does not change or do anything out of character. When an individual knows Him, they know His manners and customs. It becomes easier to discern between interpretations that are in alignment with Him and His ways and those that are not. It is on this basis; we can determine the return of the King will be on “Yom Teruah”.

Based on this evidence, “Yom Teruah” is a memorial marking the Fall of Mankind. It is a Day to grieve with our Father for all the evil that has occurred as a result of this decision made by the first Adam. We are to remember what it was like prior to the Fall when mankind obeyed ALL of our Father’s Laws. Then, Adam disobeyed Yahuah and brought death and curses upon all inhabitants of the earth. This led to the great flood event and all the evil we experience today in our society. It was the beginning of the War between Heaven and Earth. But this War will come to an END after 6000 years and our Father will establish a new King who will rule and reign over all the inhabitants of the earth using Yahuah’s Laws. There will be shalom and unity between Heaven and Earth once again under the leadership of Messiah Yahusha Ben David. It is this message that we are instructed to remember and tell our children each year when Yom Teruah is observed.

In the next study, we are going to discuss the transition that will occur on Yom Teruah.
